Habitual Coffee: Where You'll Find the Best AeroPress Hand-Brewed Coffee in Metro Manila

Habitual Coffee: Where You'll Find the Best AeroPress Hand Brewed Coffee in Metro Manila

Habitual Coffee made waves in the Third Wave Specialty Coffee space when they opened a specialty cafe that only serves coffee brewed using an AeroPress - an somewhat ugly contraption that makes some of the best coffee you'll ever taste. The AeroPress makes such a great cup that it's one of the favorite coffee brewers for serious coffee lovers who brew their own coffee.

Habitual Coffee recently transferred from the Edition Lifestyle store in Ortigas to Don Chino Roces Avenue in Makati City. They are currently on a dry run and will officially open their doors soon.

If you love specialty cafes, here's why you should drop by Habitual Coffee...

Aeropress Brewed Coffee (Php 160)
The Aerobie AeroPress is what made Habitual Coffee so popular. While other specialty coffee shops might provide you with a number of hand brew options such as a Hario V60, Chemex, or French Press, Habitual Coffee only uses the AeroPress to make hand brewed coffee.

They are such masters of AeroPress brewing that Kaye Ong, one of the founders, won 2nd runner up at the 2015 World AeroPress Championship held in Seattle, USA. Here's a video of the 2015 Philippine Championship crowning her as the national champion .

They used to offer a variety of beans, but now they're only brewing the Ethiopia Konga for Php 160.

2015 World AeroPress Chamionship Trophy
Here's a photo of her championship trophy, proudly displayed at Habitual Coffee. Kaye Ong sure has skills!

Flat White (Php 140)
Habitual Coffee also began offering espresso-based drinks in their new store. I recommend the Flat White (Php 140), as it's crafted with just the right balance of coffee and milk. It's certainly the best Flat White I've ever tasted.

If you're looking for a stronger cup of coffee, when you can get either an Espresso (Php 120) or a Cortado (Php 140). The above picture is a Cortado, which is espresso with milk served in a tiny glass. It's very tasty but it's a bit too strong (and small) for me to fully enjoy!

Kalsada Coffee (Php 500 per 250g)
They also started selling 250g bags of coffee beans from Kalsada Coffee. I recommend the Baldino Family Single Origin from Benguet, you'll enjoy a delicious cup with notes of pineapple and papaya. It's my favorite local single origin coffee!

I featured Kalsada in my previous article on freshly roasted coffee beans

They recently started serving some food in their new store. The photo above is that of a Spicy Tuna Sandwich and I found it to be really delicious - it had a nice punch of flavor.

Here's a map of where you can find Habitual Coffee in Chino Roces. They are located near Little Tokyo.

The place has a nice feel to it - a very homey and comfortable atmosphere. The baristas were really nice and they make you feel really welcome.

What to order: AeroPress Brewed Coffee, Flat White, S'mores
