Supercook.com is a really amazing website and I think every home cook should get an idea of how much of a lifesaver it can be. Supercook offers home cooks something valuable - the ability to find recipes that you can cook with just whatever ingredients you have lying around at home. You don't have to go out and buy ingredients because the website already gives you recipe ideas based on what you already have. It's certainly useful if you want to try out a new recipe, but are too lazy to go out. It happens.
The video above shows you the new supercook website, but while testing it out I found it to be a bit buggy. I entered in the ingredients I have in my pantry (using my old supercook account) and it didn't show me any recipes. So, in the meantime, you can just use the old website to get started. It's less pretty, but it's just as useful.
Time Magazine has this to say about supercook.com,
Your cupboards and fridge are full of various items, yet you have no idea how to combine them into something that tastes halfway decent. Luckily, Supercook can do the hard work for you. Tell it what you have on hand, and it’ll show you a bunch of recipes culled from popular cooking sites such as Food.com and Epicurious.
Here's a picture of the old website below.
You can just continue to add ingredients on the upper left side of the site until you find something you like. It does a pretty good job of giving you a list of the most common kitchen ingredients but it also has a search function for those that don't show up. Remember to register for an account, so that you get to save all your ingredients and it won't disappear when you go back to the site. It would save you a lot of time and effort.
I hope you find this website as useful as I do. It would be great if you could tell me if an iphone app that does this as well, that would be spectacular.
