We Sampled 11 Local and Imported Beers And Here Are Our Favorites

We Sampled 11 Local and Imported Beers and Here Are Our Favorites

We were feeling a bit adventurous one evening, so we decided it was about time we drink a lot of beer and figure out which ones we liked the most. So we teamed up a casual drinker and a beer enthusiast, and we asked them to evaluate their top 3 favorite beers from the 11 bottles we bought. Admittedly, we were already a bit buzzed towards the latter half of the evening that this might not be a totally objective review - but we gave it our best shot.

So, in our opinion, here are our favorites.

Imported Beer Prices Philippines Vinos Metro Wine Center Market Market

All the beers were purchased from Vinos Metro Wine Center which is located in Market Market. We admit we aren't experts, but based on our opinion here are the best beers from the list.

The Casual Drinker (Top 3)

1. Blue Moon

We Sampled 10 Different Imported Beers and Here Are Our Favorites - Blue Moon Beer

Blue Moon is an unfiltered wheat ale spiced in the Belgian tradition for an uncommonly smooth taste. The flavor starts crisp and tangy and ends with a coriander and orange spiciness. The Valencia orange peel gives a subtle sweetness to the beer. The berry-like flavor makes it my favorite beer.

It's the perfect beer for casual drinkers, with a smooth and subtle sweetness.

2. Stella Artois

We Sampled 10 Different Imported Beers and Here Are Our Favorites - Stella Artois

Stella Artois is one of the world’s best-selling beers and is enjoyed in more than 80 countries. Its full, characteristic flavor and high quality is assured through a superior brewing process and by using the finest ingredients available.

Stella Artois used to be my favorite beer, but Blue Moon just dethroned it.

3. Hoegaarden

We Sampled 10 Different Imported Beers and Here Are Our Favorites - Hoegaarden Witbier-biere blance

Hoegaarden is an unfiltered Belgian White, flavored with coriander and orange peel. This combination creates a sweet & sour taste that's light and easy to drink. I liked it because it was smooth with a very balanced taste. It feels like a party in your mouth.

I'm a regular drinker of San Miguel Red Horse Beer and if you'd ask me, I prefer a bottle of red horse than the following beers:

  • San Miguel Premium (I like it taste-wise, but I prefer the full flavor of red horse)
  • Murphy's (I thought it was bland and lacks flavor)
  • Corona (nothing special and lacks flavor)
  • Erdinger (We didn't finish the bottle)

The Beer Entusiast (Top 3)

1. Guinness

We Sampled 10 Different Imported Beers and Here Are Our Favorites - Guiness Draught

Guinness Draught is dark Irish stout that has long been one of the world’s bestselling beers. A bittersweet, deep-dark mouthful in every sip. Best for those who enjoy a dark mouthful of flavor. If you live in the Philippines, think of Cerveza Negra

2. Paulaner

We Sampled 10 Different Imported Beers and Here Are Our Favorites - Paulaner

The Paulaner Hefe-Weißbier in Germany and one of the world’s favorite beers. Naturally cloudy and shining silky gold in the glass under a really strong head of foam. At the first mouthful this Weißbier classic has a mild aroma of banana. Finer palates detect a trace of mango and pineapple and the balance between sweet and bitter.

3. Blue Moon

We Sampled 10 Different Imported Beers and Here Are Our Favorites - Blue Moon Beer

It comes to no surprise that Blue Moon is in both our lists (with Stella as a close 4th). The zesty taste reminds us of sweet berries. The unique flavor makes for a sweet, smooth beer that's easy to drink.

Special Mention - Budweiser

We Sampled 10 Different Imported Beers and Here Are Our Favorites - Budweiser

Budweiser might be lowest ranked beer (1.45) on our list based on ratebeer.com ratings, but it makes for a great casual drink because of it's sweet aroma and citrusy notes. It reminds me of neroli (orange peel) and is great for the casual drinker who wants to enjoy a smooth, sweet drink. It's the "King of Beers" for a reason

Again, we're not experts but this should give you an idea what to get whether you're a casual beer drinker or a beer enthusiast. Happy drinking!

  1. I'm not a beer drinker because I don't like its bitter taste. Although as I grew older, I had been able to drink a bottle or two on occasion. I could stand flavored beer. But I'm curious what could you recommend to a non-drinker like me.

    1. I think you'll probably like the sweeter varieties such as the Blue Moon or a Budweiser. :) If you're looking for a local drink that's not Tanduay Ice, why don't you try Brew Kettle? It tastes great!

      Thanks for dropping by!

    1. Hey Lux! You should, I love both beers but if you're looking for sweet, fruity flavor then get Blue Moon. If you want a lighter beer, Stella would be perfect.

Let me know what your thoughts are! :D
