New Selecta Ice Cream Flavors: Mais Con Quezo, Choco Almond Fudge, and Fruit Salad

New Selecta Ice Cream Flavors: Mais Con Quezo, Choco Almond Fudge, and Fruit Salad

Just this September, Selecta Ice Cream Philippines added three new flavors to their arsenal of delicious ice cream flavors with the release of Mais Con Quezo, Choco Almond Fudge, and Fruit Salad. Selecta has been the leading player in the Philippine ice cream market with 46.4% Market Share in 2010 which is more than Nestle (33%) and Magnolia (8.5%) combined. According to a Rappler article, they grew their market share to 76% in 2013, and are now a dominant force in the industry.

One reason why they stay on top is that they continue to roll out new flavors to keep themselves ahead of the pack. I am a huge ice cream fanatic, so I went to get all three tubs right away. Can these flavors possibly beat my favorite Selecta ice cream flavors; Mrs. Fields Chocolate Chip Cookie or Coffee Crumble? Find out with my review below.

Selecta Ice Cream Flavors: Mais Con Quezo, Choco Almond Fudge, and Fruit Salad

Choco Almond Fudge

I am not a chocolate lover so I was hoping that Choco Almond Fudge would have a more 'almond' taste in the ice cream base, however chocolate seems to remain as the dominant flavor that you can taste in each bite, with the occasional chewy fudge and almond. It seems be a great new twist for chocolate lovers to enjoy, but it won't quite beat Mrs Fields Chewy Fudge Cookie as my favorite ice cream flavor just yet.

3/5 Stars

Mais Con Quezo

This new flavor is really great. The combination of corn (mais) and cheese in Mais Con Quezo was really refreshing and it mixes really well. I really liked the fact that every bite has bits of cheese which complements very well with the corn base. It's a really damn good ice cream flavor and this is one flavor that I will keep on bringing home!

4/5 Stars

Fruit Salad

The Fruit Salad was also quite good, but nothing special. I find that the fruit salad bits was mixed very well with the ice cream to provide a multitude of different flavors in every bite. This flavor exceeded my expectations and I think it would cater very well for people who would like pre-made fruit salads to take home, but my personal preference would be to create real fruit salad with fresh fruits.

3.5/5 Stars

While these three new Selecta ice cream flavors a pretty tasty, only Mais Con Quezo will have me coming back for more as an alternative to my favorite flavors. Each flavor retails at 240php for a 1.5L tub. Apparently, these are Selecta's Christmas Ice Cream Flavors for the year. So, grab a tub to try it out yourself this Christmas.

I hope you enjoyed this review. Let me know what you think of the three new flavors on the comments below.
