The Firefly View Deck, located at the rooftop of City Garden Grand Hotel, is popular for its view of the beautiful Makati skyline 32 floors high. It's a place where you can enjoy a few drinks and unwind after a busy day at the office. It's quite a popular place for expats, being so close to Makati Avenue's night scene.
The restaurant offers rooftop barbecue, an all-you-can-eat Mongolian Buffet, bar chow and drinks for fun evening of music and laughs. I wouldn't label the restaurant a foodie haven that serves amazing, must-eat dishes - you come here to have a good time on top of the city. With the exception of the buffet, prices are reasonable and you are sure to have a fun time with live music and a lively night crowd.
Here's what you can expect from Firefly View Deck at City Garden Grand Hotel...
Firefly View Deck has a live band performing every Friday and Saturday evening so you can relax to beautiful tunes and refreshing cocktails with friends.
The restaurant's Mongolian Unlimited Buffet (Php 795) is good, but not spectacular for the selection of dishes you can enjoy. What lets it down is the price point, which is close to what more popular buffet restaurants arounch Metro Manila, such as Buffet 101 and Vikings, offer where you can get a wide selection of dishes at the same price point.
If it's around Php 400 - Php 600, I might consider it fairly price but otherwise I don't think it's a value-for-money offer.
You can have your selection of seasoning for your Mongolian bowl. I personally let the chef decide on the best combination.
Here's a bowl with a bit of everything, loaded with beef, seafood, and a selection of fresh vegetables in a bowl. It's was tasty, but make you you add this special ingredient...
For a nice sweet kick of spice make sure to add the Chili-Garlic sauce to your bowl. It needs a good spoonfull of this to really make the flavors shine, with a sweet, savory, and spicy kick. Delicious!
The buffet also has a salad selection for a healthy start to your meal.
What follows is a selection of pre-prepared dishes that comes with the buffet. So the buffet comes with unlimited Mongolian buffet, a selection of dishes from the cuisine of the night (in this case Japanese), a salad bar, a dessert section, and some bread. They change their selection of dishes often, so don't expect the dishes below to always be in the buffet.

We also tried Firefly View Deck's Bar Chow menu and I have to say the Chicken Popcorn (Php 390) is very delicious bar chow. Imagine pieces of perfectly cooked chicken with very crispy skin that's been tossed in brown butter and honey yet still juicy and moist inside.
Don't let the photo fool you, the chicken isn't burnt but rather it was cooked beautifully once you start to dig in. It's a nice sweet and salty balance that reminds me of my favorite chicken place in Binondo, Sincerity Cafe. Highly recommended!
The Rib-Eye Steak (Php 1085) from their Rooftop Barbecue menu was good, but again don't expect it to be spectacular. I thought it was priced well for the quality since it come with a choice of fries or rice, some salad, soup, and gravy. Think about it as a tasty steak but it's not at the same level as you would find from Vittorio's Steakhouse or Raging Bull.
We had it cooked medium rare but it came to our table cooked medium.

Personally, what I loved about my Firefly View Deck experience was the good music and the amazing skyline. The food was just ok and it'll definitely get you through the night. The food we ordered from the Rooftop Barbecue and the Bar Chow Menu was delicious, and I do recommend you go a la carte over the Mongolian buffet.
If you're up for an amazing hotel brunch, check out Spice Cafe for an amazing breakfast feast - a breakfast buffet with a spectacular selection of food for it's price point. Definitely more 'sulit' than Firefly View Deck's Mongolian Unlimited buffet.
