Quik Snack: Enjoy Home-Cooked Tsinoy Favorites From Amah's Kitchen Since 1967

Quik Snack, located along a tiny alley called Carvajal Street, is somewhat easy to miss in the busy streets of Binondo. The restaurant has been renovated to keep up with the times, so a first time visitor would probably be surprised to know that Quik Snack is actually one of the oldest restaurants in Binondo. Established in 1967 by Amah Pilar, who was already 60 years old at the time, the restaurant withstood the test of time and has made millions of loyal patrons fat and happy.

What sets Quik Snack apart is quality home-cooked Hokkien food spiced up with other Asian flavors. The menu has been tweaked a number of times over the years, but you can dine in the comfort knowing that the recipes from Quik Snack's core dishes are still prepared the way Amah herself would cook these dishes in decades past.

We had a number of their favorites and here's how our experience was like...

Masuki: Binondo's Famous Mami House

Masuki is the famous Binondo mami house that you shouldn't miss in any Binondo food trip. What makes it special is that is offers its customers a taste of the past, being one of the oldest restaurants in Binondo. Established in the 1960s, most folks say that the restaurant stayed true to its roots over the years by serving the mami the same way as decades past. Over the years, patrons have regularly enjoyed a bowl of mami along with siopao at this Binondo landmark - a testament to the quality of their food.

Trying out Masuki really was unique, but I must admit the mami is not for everyone. If you're wondering why, then read on below.

New Po-Heng Lumpia House: Binondo's Famous Fresh Lumpia House

New Po-Heng Lumpia House is a popular in Binondo known for their Lumpia Sariwa, a Chinese-style fresh lumpia. A number of foodies love going to New Po-Heng because the rolls of lumpia is both huge and very affordable! They also serve Maki Mi, a noodle soup that's not as popular as their lumpia but is pretty good. If you haven't been here before, make sure that New Po-Heng is part of your Binondo Food Crawl itinerary.

This was the first stop on our Binondo Food Crawl and here's what we ate...

Lam Dynasty: Bringing Back the Classic Flavors of Marquina

At first glance, Lam Dynasty seems like a fairly new Chinese restaurant located at the second floor of the Pacific Centre. Little do people know, the owner of Lam Dysnasty is the son of the original founder of Marquina - a classic Binondo favorite been around since the 1950s but eventually closed down. It's located in a fairly new commercial building, offering a more modern feel compared to the classic hole-in-the-wall Binondo restaurants, but it attempts to bring back old flavors that has been around since the 1950s.

This was the second stop in our Binondo food crawl and it's not as popular as other Binondo mainstays. After trying out some of their bestsellers, I became very impressed with their food that I have been wanting to come back ever since.

Here's our Lam Dystansty experience...
