Wine Story Academy: Learn the Fine Art of Wine Tasting With Wine Story Academy's Wine 101

For so many Filipinos, wine is intimidating and reserved only for special occasions and celebrations. I used to believe that wine was only for the wealthy, and people who weren't as well off drank beer or any other affordable glasses of alcohol. But the reality is that wine is for everyone and you don't have to wait for a special occasion to enjoy a glass...or two...or maybe three.

Wine Story Philippines believes that within each wine bottle is a beautiful tale that is meant to be told. They have been educating wine lovers, enthusiasts, and wine practitioners on the many intricacies of wine through Wine Story Academy - so that many more Filipinos would come to better enjoy wine from around the world.

To kick-off one's wine journey, you start with Wine 101 - a bootcamp to the basics of wine tasting.

Wine 101 is a class that initiates the novice wine enthusiast into swirling, sniffing and sipping the wine. Understand the various flavors and aromatic qualities unique to each of the popular types of grapes as well as important wine terms and practices.

The class costs Php 2,000 and comes with a 7 different wine varieties from across the world. I think that's a fair price given how expensive each bottle of wine is with an SRP of around Php850 - Php 1600 per bottle.

The class is a classroom type format and will last for 2 hours from 2pm to 4pm. I can't give a lot of details from the class but I would say it was worth it. I think this would make for a perfect gift for someone who you would want to make very happy - especially if they love to drink wine or are open to exploring it.

We were given a mix of white, red, and dessert wines. You don't have to finish them all but I certainly did!

We also had some chocolates and cheese for wine pairing. Wine Story Academy offers a Food and Wine pairing class if you're eager to explore how to pair these two together.

The wine selection at Wine Story is very impressive. They don't offer just the typical brand wine bottles that you'd find in your local supermarkets. I saw some rare bottles of vintage wine that costs upwards of tens of thousands of pesos.

I hope you don't buy a vintage bottle before taking a class. Wine can be intimidating especially if you don't know what to look for but knowledge of wine will help you discover wine that you would truly enjoy. Maybe you prefer wine from Australia or Chile rather than those from France? You'll never know unless you have a taste!

It's great that Wine Story Academy helps make the experience of wine a bit less intimidating by offering many different classes. Some of the upcoming classes include:
