Johnny Kahuku's Hawaiian Shrimp House: Shrimp Buckets and Hawaiian Treats

If you have been reading my blog for a while, you'd know that I'm crazy about shrimps. I can eat buckets upon buckets of shrimps, crabs, prawns or really any crustacean that can be cooked into something delicious. I recently found out that Johnny Kahuku's Hawaiian Shrimp House started selling shrimp buckets for as low as Php 228 and I'm ecstatic. That's pretty enjoyable considering that affordable shrimps are very hard to come by in Manila, and I only ever enjoy as much of them as I can during buffets.

Here's more on Johnny Kahuku's delicious shrimp buckets and new Hawaiian Trucks.

Johnny Kahuku's Hawaiian Shrimp House currently has only two stores in Metro Manila, on in Resorts World Manila and another in Eastwood Mall. While the store in Resorts World is very big and roomy, the one at Eastwood Mall is quite small. The interiors are made to look like you're dining on the beach beside the cool waters of Hawaii. While I have never been to Hawaii, the restaurant does have quite an Island feel to it and that makes me very calm and relaxed.

Johnny Kahuku serves Shrimp Baskets and Shrimp Buckets. We had a taste of the more affordable Shrimp Baskets which are small pieces of shrimps that have been fried so that you can eat the shrimps entirely and it comes in 5 different flavors.

The restaurant also started serving more affordable Hawaiian trucks. Previously, to enjoy Johnny Kahuku you'd have to spend over Php 300 per meal and more if you are after a bit of variety. Now, you can enjoy a meal at Johnny Kahuku for just around Php 200 making it even more affordable for college students and some of the office workers around the area. I think this is a very good move.

The Shrimp Baskets, which start at Php 228, are my favorite items from the new menu items. I highly recommend either the Honey Garlic Shrimp Basket (Php 248) or the Crispy Drunken Shrimp Basket (Php 228). Honey garlic is such a wonderful flavor combination and it's great with shrimps. It's so addictive that I found I couldn't stop eating from it, even though I was already so full.

Overall, a basket of shrimp at this price point cooked this good is such a bargain. I'm definitely coming back for more of these shrimp baskets.

The Root Beer Glazed American Ribs (Php 225) is my favorite from the new Hawaiian Trucks. It's a slab of, sweet, tangy, sticky ribs with 2 slices of grilled corn and rice. It was very delicious and for the price point I find that it's very much a bargain.

The Hawaiian Pit Roasted Chicken (Php 195) is another option for lunch or dinner as it's a Lemongrass marinated piece of quarter chicken that has been grilled to perfection served with some Coconut Hawaiian rice.

They also serve Samoan Pork Barbecue (Php 175) and Huli Huli Chicken Skewers (Php 175) which were both very good. Honestly, I prefer these skewers a lot because they are not only the most affordable options on the menu, but they are also very tasty.

The Samoan Pork Barbecue is glazed with a sticky hickory barbecue sauce and is sweet and sticky just the way I like it. The Huli Huli Chicken Skewers is glazed with their special Huli Huli glaze and is again very moist, soft, and tasty. If I'm not looking to splurge a bit on the ribs and after a bit of variety, I would order either of these dishes and be very happy.

To finish the meal, you should try the Strawberry Smoothie Macai Bowl (Php 258) which helps clean the palate after a rich flavor-packed meal. Out of the three desserts we were served, this was my favorite and I love how well the crunch and texture of the honey granola paired really well with the Strawberry Yogurt Smoothie and fresh mango cubes. Delicious!

They also have a Mango Yogurt Macai Bowl (Php 268) which has Crumbled Oats and Cereal Cookie, Mango Yogurt, Smoohie, strawberry slices and bananas. I would have been happy with either dessert because both are very refreshing and zesty. It's also a healthy way to end a meal!

The Banana, Chocolate and Peanut Butter Macai Bowl (Php 198) another decadent treat at Johnny Kahuku. It's made with Dark Chocolate Smoothie, Peanut Butter Ganache and served with Banana Slices, Honey Granola, Banana chips and mashmallows. If you're after something rich and decadent rather than refreshing, I would recommend this. It was pretty delicious, but just a fair warning it's hard to finish on your own because of how decadent it is but it's perfect for sharing.

Now, whenever I'm craving for shrimps Johnny Kahuku is now my go-to shrimp place. At Php 228, these shrimps baskets are such a bargain and you can enjoy them with the Hawaiian trucks. I heard their Poke bowls are very delicious but unfortunately I haven't tried them yet. I'll make sure to try them next them the next time I visit and let you know how they taste.

There are not a lot of Hawaiian restaurant options in Metro Manila, and Johnny Kahuku's probably your best bet for a taste of delicious Hawaiian food. Make sure you check them out!
