Sassas Chicharronia: Crunchy Chicharon Bulaklak and Other Filipino Favorites at The Yard Underground

Sassas Chicharronia probably lives by the following motto 'everything's better with Chicharon Bulaklak'. Located at the newly opened The Yard Underground, Sassas embraces traditional Filipino dishes such as sisig, longganisa, and lechon and makes your meal even better with a good old serving of chicharon bulaklak.

If you're looking for something nutritious, turn around and order elsewhere. But if you're craving for delicious Filipino beer grub for a night of drinks then Sassas Chicharronia has got you covered.

Here's what you can expect from Sassas Chicharronia...

The Crispy Lechon with Chicharon Bulaklak Platter (Php 290) is one deadly dish of freshly-cooked chicharon bulaklak and crispy lechon served with a homemade vinegar dip. Both were so juicy and crispy that you can literally hear the person across you enjoying a piece. Two Filipino favorites in one dish!

Note: These photos here may not be the actual portion sized and may simply be small testers. The Ala Carte dishes in which the prices are based are said to be good for 2-4 people.

The Sisig with Chicharon Bulaklak Platter (Php 275) is another deadly combination of delicious sisig that's topped with chicharon bulaklak. It's not the best sisig you'd find in Manila but I can say it's still pretty tasty. It's also a bit spicy which makes it perfect with some rice and a cold bottle of bear. YUM!

The Sisig Longganisa with Chicharon Bulaklak (Php 120) is sisig that's made into longganisa and served with more crunchy bits of chicharon bulaklak. It's not my favorite dish from Sassas because I thought it tasted 'just okay'. I'd prefer the sisig and lechon any day, but this is one more affordable options here.

A final word of warning, Sassas Chicharronia is certainly not for the faint of heart. Their dishes are the heart-clogging Filipino favorites that your doctor will only seldom allow you to eat on those rare cheat days. But hey, we only live once right?

If you're looking for a great way to end your week, a bottle of cold beer and a serving of lechon and chicharon sounds just about right.
